Painting by Luigi Premazzi

Crawford Manor, home of West Umpton's premier African-American family, was once a festive place, a social center. Now it’s a hollow home where Horatio Crawford, his son-in-law, and his three grandchildren live their very separate lives. However, desires and longings are stirred when Horatio announces that the summer season will be dedicated to memorializing his deceased daughter with lavish parties. Gossip and scandal will ensue.

A lively mix of soap opera and meditation told in limber, fluid prose, Crawford’s Affair culminates into a lyrical, challenging, and ultimately rewarding experience where self-expression lives despite judgment. This is a celebration for lovers of inappropriate humor, comedies of manners, Mrs. Dalloway, and diversity.
