Trailblazing poet Michael R.E. Adams revives facets of Arthurian legend rarely explored. While others rehash the Holy Grail or Arthur's death, he wields his lyrical gifts to reclaim the goodness, poetry, and riotous humor of once buried romances. Like the medieval bards, he sources the old lore to spin his own glorious tale of chivalry and evil.

Barons blow their horns. The thrill of the hunt ignites the dewy air. The knights with their hounds chase the bucks through green groves.

But noble knights Sir Gawain, Sir Kay, and Bishop Baldwin wander off into a dark and bawdy adventure with high stakes…their lives.

Sourced from two medieval manuscripts, this Sir Gawain and the Carle of Carlisle reclaims with integrity the heroic humor of the Gawain romances for a new generation of readers.
